Wary: a barrier of current is as hard as a wall

Appearance

A Wave-Weaver is seen as a long, many-armed shape of clear, bright water, like a great jellyfish without a bell, its trailing arms combing the sea. Where its arms pass, the water braids and turns, and lines of current appear like roads, marked by silver bubbles. It glows faintly turquoise in the depths. It makes a deep, slow sound, like waves heard from inside a cave.

Habitat and Range

They move through the oceans of the Surging Deep, at its straits, its reefs, and around its coral cities.

Behaviour and Temperament

A Wave-Weaver shapes currents: a path for those it lets pass, a barrier for those it does not. It seems to work for the plane’s balance, and it responds to the Tidesingers' song.

Abilities

It turns water into roads and walls. A current it has woven can carry a traveller swiftly to a distant place, or hold them back like stone.

Uses and Dangers

A traveller who wins a Wave-Weaver’s help crosses the Deep in hours. Their danger is the barrier, and the current that carries a traveller somewhere they did not choose.

Lore and Belief

Some fishing folk on Caeldon pour a little drink into the sea at a dangerous strait for the one who weaves the water; travellers' tales of the Wave-Weavers may lie behind it.
