Sky-Weavers

The Sky-Weavers are the living storms of the Unbound Gale. They shape its currents and clouds into paths and barriers, and guide the flow of energy and matter through the plane. Among them are the Gust-Callers, which summon winds, and the Storm-Bringers, which raise turbulence to test travellers; the Drifters, travellers who surrendered to the wind, are counted with them.

Dangerous: their storms can drive a traveller off course

Appearance

A Sky-Weaver is seen as a storm with a centre: a great swirl of cloud, white and silver-grey, with a darker, slowly turning heart in which something like a face or a hand sometimes forms and is lost. Lightning flickers in it now and then, and the wind around it sings. It can be as large as a hill.

Habitat and Range

They drift through the skies and vortices of the Unbound Gale, among its floating islands and mountains of wind.

Behaviour and Temperament

They shape. A Sky-Weaver gathers wind and cloud and spins them into roads of air, walls of storm, and calm places, and seems to do so for the plane’s own circulation. It takes little notice of visitors, unless they are in its way.

Uses and Dangers

A road of air woven by one can carry a traveller vast distances in moments. Their danger is turbulence, which can disorient, injure, or kill, and the drift that carries a traveller away into the void.

Lore and Belief

Weather-wise peoples on Caeldon read storms as the moods of a sky-spirit; whether those storms have anything to do with the Sky-Weavers is not known.
