The Elder Worlds

The vanished elder civilizations, Upland Colossal, Ash-Furnace, Archive-Law, and Sepulchre-Kin, and the fourth age, c. 300,000-c. 120,000 BR, named for them, in which the first Humans emerged and the younger peoples found their feet by serving the elder worlds, surviving them, or picking over what they left. See Worlds That Came Before.

The age of giants and their falls. Humans emerge in the basins. Three of the four elder civilizations rise and end: the Upland Colossal world thins away and leaves its giant roads to the weather, the Ash-Furnace world burns itself to glass and slag, and the Archive-Law world writes itself shut and seals its cities. The fourth, the remote Sepulchre-Kin, rises late in the age and dies unrecorded in the next. In their shadow, nearly every later people finds its feet, by serving them, surviving them, or picking over what they left. Their ruins are still the richest and deadliest ground on Caeldon.

The Dwarves and Elves all but vanish from other peoples' tellings in this age. After the Deep Ruptures the holds close their gates and keep their own chronicles where no outsider reads them, and the Elven realms turn inward to heal. Their histories go on; they are simply not shared.
