The First Celestial Condensations

The forming of the first lasting bodies in the new Material Plane, c. 12,000,000-c. 2,500,000 BR. See The Ages of Caeldon.

Overview

In The First Celestial Condensations, the early age of the Material Plane after The First Equilibrium, great bodies of matter begin to gather and last.

A balanced haze becomes lasting bodies. The first steady masses of the Material Plane form, and the long road opens from the balance of the cosmos to the history of worlds.

After the First Equilibrium

Once The First Equilibrium is won, the Material Plane no longer merely survives.

Its balanced material law now holds firm enough for things to last at scales beyond small pockets and passing shapes. Orientation, distance, and the meeting of matter hold across the whole plane, so great masses can gather without sliding back into chaos or being torn apart by forces pulling towards the poles.

The cosmos does not fill with finished worlds overnight. But at last the Material Plane is a realm in which worlds can form at all.

The First Stable Bodies

The first celestial condensations are the earliest great bodies of matter that last within the steadied Material Plane.

They matter for what they prove, long before anyone could map them: that balanced material law can hold vast things together again and again. Bodies endure, their surroundings endure, and the first long turnings of matter begin, where before there was only drifting or unsteady stuff. The setting does not begin with one ready-made world. It begins with a realm that slowly learns to make many lasting ones.

The condensations follow straight from The First Equilibrium. Equilibrium makes steady matter possible. The condensations are where that possibility first takes lasting form.

Towards Planetary History

The age of the first condensations is still the story of the cosmos, not of any one place.

No planet, species, or civilization stands at its centre. Instead it lays the ground for all of them: worlds that last long enough for life, adaptation, settlement, memory, and history to gather. Only after this age can one speak of a world such as the one born in The Creation of Caeldon.

The condensations bridge the steadied Material Plane and the far later age in which named worlds become the stage of history. For Caeldon, that step is The Creation of Caeldon.

Historical Significance

The First Celestial Condensations turn a balanced cosmos into a cosmos with worlds waiting to be lived on.

They show that the Material Plane is more than balance; it is a maker of worlds. Without this age, the tale would leap from equilibrium straight to named planets. With it, the slow order of things holds: first survival, then lasting balance, then lasting bodies, and only later particular worlds.

At the far end of this long gathering, Caeldon is made.
