Paleseep

Lesser house around a thin seep that buys water on debt.

A lesser house of a few households around a thin seep lit faintly by the gloam. Its own water does not cover its needs, so it buys the rest on debt from a neighbour, which is why its young people slip off to scout struck ways, and why fewer of them come home than the house admits: a great house pays a year's water as bounty for a struck way proved passable, and none at all for a way proved drowned.
