Anvilwake
Great upper hold in the middle of the belt, first of the few leading holds that speak for the Ironspine and together act as its centre; the region has no capital.
A great upper hold whose gate opens on a mountain face above a faultbound valley, with outer yards and halls at the gate, halls, markets, and an archive of stone tablets behind it, and cradle-chambers deepest of all. Its forges send smoke above the ridge on every working day. Some twenty thousand Dwarves live there with Kobold crews in the vent runs, Goblin underwall households in the service passages, and Wrought in the forge levels, and it is one of the holds that speak with the Crownbough Courts and the corridor powers. Its gate has never fallen, and its wardens can name every siege it has held; the war-axes of the besieging captains hang in the gate hall, one for each, and the oldest are of a make no smith alive can name.
