Overview

The Steward of Sacred Metamorphosis governs the transitions by which a being becomes something more true, more whole, or more fully itself. It guards the holy danger of change.

Its office ensures that transformation remains meaningful. Change should not be random mutation, coercive reformatting, or endless self-rejection. It should be a process in which the old form yields so the deeper self may emerge.

Since the Uneven Settling this office has been hard pressed but has never fallen. It is one of the reasons whole peoples could survive a damaged world by changing rightly instead of either breaking or mutating into things without kind.

Appearance and Presence

The Steward appears as a figure wrapped in translucent veils like wings, skin, parchment, and moulted glass all at once. Its shape shifts, but never chaotically.

• Visuals: Each movement leaves behind a brief afterimage of a previous form, all of them clearly related.
• The Atmosphere: Seeds split. Old wounds itch. People feel the terrifying possibility that they do not have to remain as they are.
• The Voice: It speaks in questions and invitations rather than commands.

• It opposes both monstrous mutation and sterile self-fixation.

This office is essential because a cosmos without sanctified transformation would trap beings in immaturity, damage, and inherited forms that no longer fit.

• Chrysalis State: It can place a being in a suspended interval of transformation, allowing deep change to occur in protected form.
• Metamorphic Discernment: It can distinguish holy transformation from pathological alteration.
• Threshold Blessing: It can sanctify initiations, transitions, and identity passages so they take root fully.
