Flawless

Overview

The Flawless are the things of the Apex that the plane has perfected: its guardians, its animals, and its visitors who stayed too long. The name covers the Crystal-Golems that guard its borders, the Harmony-Beasts that move in perfect step, and the Echo-Statues, who were once travellers. Travellers' lists also call them the Statuesque Guardians.

Appearance

What they share is finish. Every one of them is exact, symmetrical, and without blemish, in the gold, white, and silver of the plane, and none of them shows wear, age, or hurry. Many look like statues, and some of them are.

Habitat and Range

They are found throughout the Apex, the guardians at its borders and Mirror Gates, the beasts across its hills, and the statues wherever their visitors stopped.

Behaviour and Temperament

They do what they are perfected to do and nothing else, and they never change. Whatever they once were, the plane has finished them.

Uses and Dangers

Things made in the Apex never fail, and some say the Flawless are the plane's proof of it. Their danger lies in the guardians, which cannot be damaged, and in the example of the statues.

Lore and Belief

Travellers' tales confuse the three kinds freely, and a statue seen on the Apex may be a guardian, a beast that has stopped, or a traveller who did not leave in time. Whether the Crystal-Golems were made by anyone, or perfected out of something else, is not known.
