Storm-Callers
Beings of the Crucible that summon lightning storms to reshape its landscape.
Overview
The Storm-Callers are counted among the Burners of the Crucible: beings that summon storms of lightning to reshape its landscape. When the obsidian mountains of the Crucible shift, a Storm-Caller is often above them.
Appearance
A Storm-Caller is seen in the sky more than on the ground: a tall, thin shape of violet and white light, like a figure drawn in lightning, hanging above the fire-seas with its arms raised. Around it the plasma sky churns into thunderheads. When it calls a strike, the bolt comes from its hands and the thunder is felt in the chest before it is heard. Between storms it is dimmer, a flickering violet thread. It smells of ozone, sharp enough to sting the nose.
Habitat and Range
They hang above the obsidian mountains and lava fields of the Crucible, and drift where the plane's storms gather.
Behaviour and Temperament
A Storm-Caller reshapes. It calls lightning down on rock and lava, splitting mountains, opening new rivers of fire, and raising new islands, and it seems to do so with purpose, as a sculptor works, though what it is making no one knows. It ignores travellers unless they stand in its way.
Abilities
It summons lightning storms, and its strikes break stone and change the land below them in moments.
Uses and Dangers
Rock struck by a Storm-Caller's lightning is said to make the strongest Crucible-forged metals, and some Forgers follow them for it. Their danger is the storm, and the land shifting under a traveller's feet.
Lore and Belief
Fire and wind together make storms, the schools say, and some teachers of Storm Magic on Caeldon claim the Storm-Callers as the pattern of their art. Travellers simply call them the lightning-makers and keep away.
