About me
I am Jan Oetjen, a developer living in Kiel. I have been writing software professionally since the mid-nineties — first commercial IT and service work, then Java, then a long stretch of PHP and JavaScript for shops, communities and content-managed sites.
What I do for fun sits a little further down the stack. Most of my public work is a single connected idea: a grammar compiler (Ichor), then the things you can build once you have one — a data notation with a text and a binary form (Dextrin), a configuration language with a real specification (Cooper), a Prolog dialect, a Lisp, and a composable query language (Scry).
I publish them because the problems were worth solving properly, and because someone else may need the same pieces. If something here is useful to you, I would like to hear about it.
My personal favourite is Clojure — I am a fan of LISP and of functional programming in general — though it has stayed a private interest: I have no professional experience in it. Smalltalk and Prolog intrigue me too, with little practical experience in either.
